Credit Transfer / RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)
AAMC Training Group is committed to providing quality training and assessment in accordance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (SRTOs 2015). As such, AAMC Training Group is required to offer Recognition to all clients, and to implement an assessment system that ensures that assessment (including recognition of prior learning) complies with assessment requirements of Training Packages and VET Accredited course, the Principles of Assessment (POA) and Rules of Evidence (ROE).
Credit Transfer
Credit transfer is defined in the AQF as follows:
Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications.
This is underpinned by the AQF definition of credit as follows:
Credit is the value assigned for the recognition of equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to achieve a qualification and may be through credit transfer, articulation, recognition of prior learning or advanced standing.
You may be able to claim credit transfer for a unit/s of competency that you may have previously completed with AAMC Training or another RTO. If you have been awarded a record of result or statement of attainment for any of the units detailed in your course, then you have the ability to request Credit Transfer for those units within your course area on the LMS. You will need to provide a *certified copy of your record of results or statement of attainment. Your credit transfer request will then be reviewed and you will be notified by email if your request has been approved.
- AAMC Training Group will accept and mutually recognise the decisions and outcomes of any RTO or body in partnership with an RTO, thereby ensuring mutual acceptance throughout Australia of the qualifications and Statements of Attainment awarded by other RTO’s or AQF authorised issuing organisations.
- AAMC Training Group recognises AQF certification documentation from other RTOs, and authenticated VET transcripts issued by the Registrar and after review and verification of validity will apply a credit to all relevant units of competency/modules.
- Credit Transfer applies when the certification documentation provided by the client contains the same national competency code as those that form part of the training and assessment program offered by AAMC Training Group.
- Copies of documents provided in support of an application, or other purpose required by the National Law, must be certified as true copies of the original documents. For a list of persons who can certify documents:
Certified documents must:
- Be initialled on every page by the Authorised Officer.
- Annotated on the last page as appropriate e.g. “I have sighted the original document and certify this to be a true copy of the original” and signed by the Authorised Officer.
- List the name, date of certification, and contact phone number and position number (if relevant) and have the stamp or seal of the Authorised Officer (if relevant) applied.
- If your record of results or statement of attainment was obtained through AAMC Training, an uncertified copy will be sufficient as AAMC Training can confirm the authenticity of your unit/s of competency.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined in the AQF as follows:
Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.
RPL means an assessment process that assesses the competency/s of an individual that may have been acquired through formal, non-formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual meets the requirements specified in the training package or VET accredited courses.
- formal learning refers to learning that takes place through a structured program of instruction and is linked to the attainment of an AQF qualification or statement of attainment (for example, a certificate, diploma or university degree);
- non-formal learning refers to learning that takes place through a structured program of instruction, but does not lead to the attainment of an AQF qualification or statement of attainment (for example, in-house professional development programs conducted by a business); and
- informal learning refers to learning that results through experience of work-related, social, family, hobby or leisure activities (for example the acquisition of interpersonal skills developed through several years as a sales representative).
In evaluating the RPL application the following will be considered:
- Evidence – Is there sufficient evidence to indicate the experience, training, knowledge and skills of the applicant?
- Quality – Is the experience, training, knowledge and skills relevant and suitably extensive to cover all aspects of the competencies of the course?
- Relevance – Is the experience, training, knowledge and skills currently relevant to the course?
For full RPL details please review AAMC Training's Recognition Policy – available on the Student Support page of the AAMC Training website.
