Mentoring & Coaching Australia-credit reporting privacy code

Select Industry
Credit Reporting Privacy Code

The Credit Reporting Privacy Code (CR Code) replaces the Credit Reporting Code of Conduct issued under Section 18A of the Privacy Act 1988 (this section is repealed with effect from 12 March 2014).

The CR Code is an important part of the regulatory framework for the credit reporting system in Australia. That system is intended to increase the efficiency of Australia’s consumer credit market. However, more comprehensive reporting necessitates improved privacy protections.

The CR Code adds to aspects of the credit reporting obligations imposed by Part IIIA of the Privacy Act and the Privacy Regulation 2013. The CR Code does not encompass all aspects of Part IIIA and so compliance with the CR Code alone will not achieve full compliance with Part IIIA.

Whilst the legislative summary is intended to assist readers and serve to link the CR Code provisions to the legislation, the summary should not be relied upon as a comprehensive statement of the legislative obligations.

Bolded terms are defined in the Privacy Act 1988 or in this CR Code (for ease of reading the often-used defined terms CRB, CP and individual are not bolded).

A multiple-choice assessment will also be required to be undertaken at the end of the course. Instructions are provided at the end of the course on how to complete your assessment.
